Celebrate National Zookeepers Week With Books!

It's the perfect time of year to take your child to the zoo and discover new animals. This year in lieu of a birthday gift we asked for zoo passes from my parents. Visiting our local zoo is a thrill for me, I'm close to animals I may never see in their natural habitat. Teaching the Booper about animals is more fun when he can see them for himself. Learning an appreciation for all the care being given to feed, shelter and help the zoo animals thrive the Booper learns the first steps to conservation. When he learns about all the work the zookeepers do each day he wants to say a big thank you to all the zookeepers! With National Zookeepers week being July 20-26 it's the perfect time to visit your local zoo and share your gratitude with an employee. We're thrilled to celebrate zookeepers by offering our readers a fun children's book giveaway! Enter our giveaway below then hop along and enter for more books on the other fabulous sites!
If you're looking for good books for your child to enjoy during National Zookeepers Week then you'll want to check out these two books from Peter Pauper Press. Both books will give your child a hands on element of animal discovery and they can put their imagination to work scratching their own artwork!

The Zoo is Closed Today written by Evelyn Beilenson, illustrated by Anne Kennedy:
It was a warm sunny day
with not much to do.
So Sue and John walked
to the Kalamazoo.

But when John and Sue arrive at the zoo, they are in for a big surprise! What is wrong with all of the animals? From Edward the elephant to Marcel the monkey, the animals have tummy aches and toothaches, runny noses and sore throats. Pete the zookeeper can barely keep up with taking care of them and has to close the zoo. And the next day, John and Sue are in for an even bigger surprise! This charming tale, illustrated with humor and warmth, demonstrates the value of sweet friendship.
