When we first enrolled our son in school he was full of excitement and passion for learning. He couldn't wait to join the other kids and our bedtime reading sessions were his favorite part of the day. As he entered Kindergarten his excitement started fading as his struggles to see the letters correctly became more evident. Unfortunately, he had someone at his school that was reinforcing his struggles instead of celebrating his successes. At the end of his first grade school year, we discovered he had been being bullied about his reading ability. To him, books became a thing of torture and ridicule. Even our story time was no longer fun for him. He would moan when he saw me looking at his bookshelf. It became my mission to ignite his joy for great books again. I started by just letting him pick any book that looked good to him, but the real game changer came when we discovered audiobooks. He listened to his first book using earbuds and he was hooked. He started discussing the storyline and characters with me and I could hear him laughing out loud while listening. His smile proved that the joy of a good book was back! We trade off between audiobooks and hard copies, but his confidence is building every day. I can't wait to see what stories he writes someday. Every parent knows that kids’ brains are like sponges, soaking up drops of information and
words (even the four-letter ones we don’t always want them to). But did you know that 85
percent of what we learn, we learn by listening?
According to the Audio Publishers Association, listening increases reading accuracy by 52
percent, and combining print and audio increases memory 40 percent over print alone.
Audiobooks.com is making it easier (and more fun!) for kids to expand their vocabularies,
increase reading speed, improve fluency, and teach pronunciation. No matter what genre your
child gravitates towards, Audiobooks.com has lots of exciting kids content that can be enjoyed
while waiting for appointments, before bedtime, and during car rides (the age-old question
“Are we there yet?” will become a thing of the past, even for reluctant readers).
Just in time for back to school, make any time learning time.

  1. That really makes me mad that anyone would try/take away the joy of reading from anyone much less a kid. I never would have thought about audio books for kids but I think it is a wonderful ideal. Have you thought about getting the book to go with the tape and see if he might try to read it.
