It's funny how as parents, aunts and uncles, spouses, and friends we can find funny nicknames for our children and each other.
When I was expecting our baby, and it was before we learned he was a
boy. We called the baby peanut. I would lovingly refer to him as our
little peanut. The peanut would kick, roll and give me acid reflux.
After our son was born, had grew and started toddling around our house.
My husband started calling him the Booper, complete with sound effects. I
don't know if it's because my husband is a musician, but everything
seems to get his added sound effects around our house!
The Booper nickname started when our son was first learning to walk. My
husband would see our son toddling and make the sounds boop, boop,
boop, with every step our little guy would make. Thus he became our
little Booper, or at times simply The Boop. We love our little man. I'm
making a special place here on my blog to record funny or special
moments with the Booper. You are welcome to read these or not, but I just want to have them recorded. ~ Beck
The other night my husband, our son, and I were all on our bed having a pillow fight. We were taking a little break trying to distract the Booper, so we could stop pillow fighting. I decided to see if I could distract him by singing the Bob the Builder song. I don't really know all the words so I would just sing," Bob the builder, Bob the builder. Can we fix it, Yes we can!" The Booper got really excited and I could see him mouthing the words along with me. He has never sang actual words before, he would sing things like "laaa la laa" but never words. I just asked him if he wanted to sing it. To our amazement he said, "Yes!" and started singing (in his exact words), "Bob de builder, Bob de builder, Fix it? Yes we can!" My husband's and my mouth both dropped open. We are so proud of our little guy...a singer! :-D

ReplyDeleteSo cute! We are a multilingual family and when my son asked me to sing him a Turkish lullaby I tried to sing it but could not remember the words, he would correct me and end up singing it himself.

ReplyDeletethough I miss our kids being little I sure don't miss Bob the Builder. I could be in a dead sleep and as soon as that song played it would wake me up. Funny about nicknames....My daughter is Boo. She started off as Buddah because she had a bald head and round tummy. She looked like a Buddah when she would sit. As she grew she became Boo and she is now 11. Her friends even call her Boo.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter turned 3 recently and the stuff that comes out of her mouth is so hilarious. I love the idea of documenting it. I think I'll start some kind of journal at home of all the hilarious things that go on. Thanks for the inspiration!

ReplyDeleteI love special nicknames we give our kids. I think that when we use a name that is specific to one child that gives the child their own special identily.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny how sometimes the nicknames change when your baby is grown or gets a little older. That happened with my grandson, too. Can't wait to learn how you nickname the new baby. Wonder what the Booper will end up calling her?!
ReplyDeletemy oldest use be called thekicker he kick the living day out of me and then got in to karoke when he was 3 and kick my brother while he was sitting kithcen chair knock him out and we still joke aobut it

ReplyDeleteMy kids nicknames some of them were passed on to my grandkids. Like pumpkin, Boo Boo, Bubby . My dads nicknames for my brothers were Moose, Turtle. My youngest his real name was Anthony but in school the teachers insisted on calling him Tony so when they called on him he never responded to them . Thats not my name my name is Anthony he kept telling them. Love your story
ReplyDeleteBooper really had a stroke of genius! I wished I would have had a voice recorder when my kids first started talking. Their voices were so cute! Never to hear those little voices again 😢 it makes me sad!! They say music is the International language. I LOVE it and the wonderful moods they can put me in :)
