I'm a huge fan of keeping things simple. When it comes to cooking for my family, I like to use what we have on hand. Recently, I was asked to recreate a delicious recipe from Ragú®. I took on the challenge and didn't think much about it until later. Well, just as life does we were thrown a curveball when our main sewer line collapsed. (insert gasp here) Without being able to run water in our house we had to go stay with my parents for a few days. When you don't have access to water in your kitchen you tend to eat out a lot. Once we were able to come back home, I was excited for things to get back to normal. I was even excited to cook again for my family! What didn't occur to me at the time was we hadn't bought groceries for several days since we weren't home much. I went to the pantry to see what we had that would go together, and there sat our jar of Ragú® Hearty Traditional Sauce. I chose to make the Family Favorite Chili Mac recipe from the Ragú® website. This is a super easy recipe and can be easily modified to fit your needs. Using what we had on hand meant substituting beef for a meat-free sausage crumble from our freezer which worked great!
Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef- I used 1lb. meat-less sausage crumbles.
- 1 jar (1 lb. 8 oz.) Ragu® Traditional Sauce
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
Directions
Cook ground beef in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until done.
Stir in Sauce and chili powder. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered 10 minutes.
Stir in macaroni and heat through. Serve, if desired, with sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese.
By not using beef in the recipe it cut the cook time down significantly. We had some sweet peppers left in our fridge so I sliced them up to eat on the side. This simple meal came together fast and tasted great! What makes our meal time Saucesome for me, is seeing my whole family enjoying the same meal, at our table, and with no complaints!

Great recipe. It's chili day, and this would add a fun twist. I can even see doing it in the crock pot and letting it simmer. Yum.
ReplyDeleteThat's a tasty no meat recipe.
