I am hosting a giveaway in partnership with Scholastic! The Mommy Island is not responsible for prize fulfillment.
With the Booper starting at a new school this year, I've taken on the role of the librarian as a volunteer. He's attending a small public school where due to funding cuts they have to rely on volunteers to run the library. I love being able to help his school in general, but I was actually thrilled to have the chance to work in the library. This year I'm also organizing the school's annual Scholastic Book Fair! To say I've been obsessed with getting good books in kids' hands the last few weeks is an understatement. I've had the privilege of scouting out new books that our library needs, so when I was sent Hero Dog I checked to make sure our library had a copy too. Hilde Cracks The Case is written by 10-year-old Hilde Lysiak and is the first in a series from Scholastic Branches.
Scholastic Branches is a unique line of books specifically designed for newly independent readers, typically kids ages 5 to 8. The Branches line is here to help you foster a love of reading in your kids and give them the tools they need to become life-long readers. Each book includes an easy-to-read text, simple plot lines, plenty of context cues, cliffhanger chapter endings, and purposeful illustrations (on every page!) that aid in reading comprehension. Feeling like a successful reader will bolster your child’s self-confidence, which will lead to an increased interest in reading.
Book One: Hero Dog
In this first book, there's been a break-in on Orange Street! Cupcakes have been stolen, and soon a pie goes missing, too. Hilde and her sister/photographer, Izzy, must interview witnesses and follow the clues. Can Hilde crack the case in time to post her news story online? Joanne Lew-Vriethoff's personality-filled illustrations appear on every page, bringing Hilde's adventures to life for young readers! Visit their site to learn more about Hilde Cracks The Case!
