My mom actually read these books long before I even thought about reading them. She had told me she thought I would like them, but I brushed her off. I didn't think I had the time to waste reading a series that would probably just be a let down in some way.
I was wrong.
Before ever charging my kindle to start reading the first book, I had seen the comercial for the film coming out soon. I was instantly intrigued.I knew immediately I was going to read those books before I watched the movie. Everyone knows the books are always better than the movie, right? We will see. I started the first book titled, "The Hunger Games"by Suzanne Collins. I couldn't put it down. It was so different from all the fluffy things you can pick up and read these days. It was right up my alley. I suppose I'm a slightly dark person. These books delve into a darker side of humanity. If you are looking for an uplifting or lighthearted story these are not for you. If you enjoy great writing, imagination, sitting on the edge of your seat to find out what will happen next. You will be like me. To say I love these books is really not the right word. "Appreciate" is more accurate. I appreciate the author's courage in writing a story that has so many twists and turns that won't always make the reader happy, but tell the story well.
I believe I read the whole trilogy in about a week. Which is fast for me, having a busy 2 year old running around. I ditched house work, chores, neglected my hubby to finish the series. I had to know how it all ended. I recommend this book, but first clean your house, get your meals planned, because you won't be able to stop reading once you start! Pick up the first book or your kindle, and hang on tight for the roller coaster of ride that is, "The Hunger Games"

DeleteHeard about this series awhile back and haven't had a chance to get it yet. Now I wish I would have! Sounds like something I would love to read.... I don't like a predictable story.... love one that will keep me guessing! Thanks for the review! ;)
ReplyDeleteThese books are now among my favorite books of all time! I love the embedded themes in the series and also want to add these books were written for older youth. So if you go to get them and they are in the youth section don't be put off. They are awesome! Worth the time and would love to have a discussion group about them. May check and see if there is one online somewhere. Can't wait to see the movie!!

I enjoyed reading the books, too. I cried at the end.

ReplyDeleteI heard these were good so maybe I need to get them
ReplyDeleteI am probably the only person in the world who hasn't read or seen the Hunger Games...
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these books but I loved all 4 movies. They say the book is always better.
ReplyDeleteI would love to read this series after reading your review. It sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI saw a couple of the Hunger Games movies and they were really good. It reminds me of the book of Revelations in the Bible! How we are going to be made to do certain things so we would get food. It is so SAD that they used children and that some children died!! It seems like it comes down to survival of the fittest.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter had the books before I watched the first movie. I borrowed the first book and read it in a few hours!
ReplyDeleteThis was a good series but I read it years ago, when the books were new. So I had to wait from book to book...sucked! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI love these books! The books are better than the movies BUT the movies did not disappoint!
ReplyDeleteI never read the books, but I did see the movies and I loved them! I usually never want anything to do with children dying, but these kids were extraordinary!! They were fighting to keep their sectors feed and eventually learned about sticking together as a team and that life is no picnic! A good movie or book brings out a bunch of emotions in me like these movies did! I don't think this generation gets the meaning of loyalty or sacrifice!
ReplyDeleteI love reading and dystopian is one of my favorite genres. I never read the books, but I did see the movies. They were...just okay.
ReplyDeleteThese books helped me through some rough times and I'm super grateful. I would recommend them to anyone interested. :) Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves The Hunger Games books and the movies. She was obsessed when they were out!
