When Sarah and Andrew Spear contacted me about reviewing their children's book "My Little Geek" I was intrigued. I loved the concept of a "smarter" ABC book, and that it would be different from what is already being offered. There are so many different Alphabet books out there, and I've seen a lot of them while looking at books for our son. To be honest we only owned one other ABC book, before I received " My Little Geek" to review. I just didn't see the point in buying more books with the same pictures for every letter. I mean how many different pictures of an apple do you really need? I believe you should always give your children a variety of books to see what sparks their interest.
There just wasn't much variety in the market of ABC books until now.
When the book arrived in the mail, I told our son he had a prize in the mail. He was laughing and jumping up and down. He squealed with glee as I pulled his new book out of the package. I was hoping he wouldn't look depleted when he saw his new prize was a book, but he grabbed it out of my hands and ran to sit down and "read" it. I love that he is so excited about books!
As you may know we were preparing for a family vacation, so I packed his new book in his bag with other toys and items for the car. As you can see from the pictures, he loves looking at the cute illustrations of the "little geek" character in the book. The colorful and fun illustrations were a very nice surprise. I had to smile seeing the cat made with a soda can for a head, and the part that says, "C is for Caffeine". When you first open this book you will notice how different it is from other ABC books. Instead of listing plain everyday items, this book will require your child to learn something other than just the ABC's. I think a few of the words were over his head(since a few were over mine!) which is nice since this book is going to grow with him as he gets closer to pre-school level.

I don't have a favorite "young" children's book. But, one thing I wanted to be sure to include in my children's library are the Shel Silverstein books. I remember loving them as a child. They are just quirky and fun.
ReplyDeleteOur favorite childrens books at the moment are anything from Dr. Seuss!
ReplyDeleteShel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite children's book, hmmmm....I have so many -- How about Clever Jack Takes the Cake by Candace Fleming, The Junkyard Wonders by Patricia Polacco, The Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble by William Steig (actually any book by Steig). I could keep going! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy Little Geek sounds great!
