Hallmark Encourages Pet Adoption With New Best Friends Stuffed Animals

I received products from Love Hallmark in exchange for this post. All views and opinions are my own, sponsor is responsible for prizing.

About nine and a half years ago I took a 200 mile trip to a no-kill shelter to pick up a energetic, black ball of fur and I named that little terrier mix Luna. Luna has been a puppy at heart every since and she seems to have boundless energy, and I have to say I hope it stays that way. Even now as her muzzle starts to show more and more gray she will bound after squirrels or birds in our yard. Growing up,  many of our pets were shelter pets or dogs people abandoned out in the country where we lived. We had some of the smartest, loving and loyal pets anyone could ask for. I remember being a teenager and coming home and the only one in the house was our family dog Nugget. She would walk around the house with me and I always felt safe since she was a large Great Dane. Nugget was stubborn,  loved to eat butter right off the table, but she was playful and fiercely protective of our family. My life has been better for having My Best Friend pets in it.
Of all my pets I've owned each one is unique and special to me. I can actually smile when I think about pets from my childhood and shed a tear as I miss them. Each one of my pets holds a special place in my heart, but Wolfie was really the first pet that truly belonged to me. You can read all about him on this older post Wolfie's Story. (Fair Warning: It's a tearjerker)

On this note about how much loving a pet can impact your life. I'm delighted to share with you Hallmark's latest endeavor to help shelter animals find their forever homes! 1. I own a Jack Russell Terrier. She's the sweetest and so intelligent. My favorite memory with her was her reaction to meeting my first grandson for the first time. She was so excited!

  2. I am so happy Hallmark is doing this. I have 1 dog I adopted in 2010 from a rescue group. Lat summer I adopted 2 cats from the SPCA. My cat of over 13 years died and I felt so empty with him not being here. Not that the new cats could replace him but I want to save as many souls as I can while I am alive. Thanks for sharing this and putting a spotlight on pet adoption.

  8. We have a black retriever/chow mix named Tux. He is a big baby, who weighs about 65 lbs! We adopted him from the local animal shelter when he was almost 3 months old and he's now 8 years old! He still has the energy of a puppy!

Growing up, we had a Sheltie, who was smart and sweet. Her name was Mandy. :)

  10. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats. Angus Big Butt is the oldest (cat) & when my daughter went off to college, I inherited the cat, my first ever. We named him that because he is a huge black & white cat that sways like a cow when he walks. Skooter is next in line, my 4 yr old purebred Yorkie that I purchased after my 14 yr old Yorkie passed away. I've owned yorkies since I was 21 (49 now) & when my 14 yr old passed, I said I didn't know how to be me without having a little Yorkie boy all my adult life. Next is Princess Annie, who was a stray kitten my fiancee brought home off the streets in the rain one night, she is the same age as Skooter and after some adjustment, they get along like brother & sister. Next came Chloe, a very wild kitten my fiancee also brought in as we were afraid with Illinois winters, she would freeze to death, she is very small compared to the other two cats & all black. She is still our "wild child" & last and very unexpected is Libby, a yorkie & other terrier mix that showed up lost at our door with 2 young ladies thinking maybe she was Skooter. I kept her overnight, gave her a bath & posted her pictures on Facebook in our small town of 1500 people. The volunteer Fire Marshall messaged me the next day & said she was his, that he had saved her from Euthanasia but that he didn't really have time for her. She had been abused and left on a chain outside for 3 years!! Had never been properly vetted etc. So we decided to adopt her. She is scared to death of storms & has anxiety attacks. She never knew how to play so has a hard time sharing but she is so full of love. She now has a forever home. The vet estimates her between 4 & 5 yrs old. I have one daughter and now am a Grammy of a 7 month old little boy who will be my only grandson. =) Thank you for the contest.

  27. We have a proverbial zoo. We were up to five dogs and three cats, but lost two of the dogs (one to age and one to medical issue) and one cat (to age) over the past year and a half. However, I also found a tiny feral kitten - just two weeks old - two days after the 4th of July. I bottle fed her and now she's eating on her own and is the sweetest and most ornery thing! The three remaining dogs are all rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds I adopted from high-kill shelters in NC and SC (and they would have been dead if I hadn't). One of the other two cats was found as a stray by a friend's father, and the other my daughter adopted from a rescue just outside of Indianapolis (he just turned 3 on Friday, too). We have our hands full! (But I'd gladly have a dozen each of dogs and cats if I could.)

  49. The best dog who's ever owned me (honestly, that's the way it goes with those blessed to share their home with a dog!) was a bichon-poodle mix, who my family rescued from a shelter. Fifi was an owner surrender (there was a house fire and the apartment building they were moving into didn't allow pets), and we didn't have the heart to change her name. She was my smart, reliable fur-sister while I grew up, and I can't even begin to list all the good memories I have of her (though I will say she often outsmarted her humans often!). Ten years on, I still remember her fondly, but sometimes the pain of my decision to let her go peacefully kicks something fierce.
